College Discussions:

  • Using The Kids' College Almanac (chapter 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5b, 6, 1-6 review, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, quiz 1, quiz 7)
    This wonderful series of classroom worksheets was developed by St. Regis GEAR UP to complement the "Kids' College Almanac" published by Jist Publishing. The worksheets correspond to chapters in the "Almanac."
  • So Much College Info, So Little Time (.ppt)
    This presentation by staff from Montana GEAR UP, the Student Assistance Foundation, and the Montana Postsecondary Educational Opportunities Council was first given at the 2007 Montana School Counselor Association Spring Conference. The presentation outlines various tools for college readiness programs, such as KnowHow2Go, MCIS, the MPSEOC Guide, and Montana GEAR UP College Visits.

College Terms/Types:

  • College Comparison Worksheet (.pdf)
    This form can be used in conjunction with college research tools such as MCIS, the MPSEOC guide, etc, to compare and contrast different colleges.

College Visits:

    This form was produced by Montana GEAR UP. It helps lay out the planning process for a successful college visit, from contacting college representatives to determining "on the bus" activities.
  • College Visit Information Grid (.doc) (.pdf)
    This grid details by Montana postsecondary institution the various contact persons and other important information needed to prepare a great college visit.
  • Top Ten Things to Think About Before Visiting a Campus (.doc) (.pdf)
    Ten great tips for students on making a college visit the best it can be.
  • Tips for College Visit Chaperones (.pdf)
    One-page form by Montana GEAR UP with information to help parents and teachers understand the important role of a college visit chaperone.
  • Tips for Hosting GEAR UP Groups (.pdf)
    This form is for college representatives who are hosting groups of GEAR UP students. Great tips for hosting a great college visit.
  • Possible On-The-Bus Games (.doc) (.pdf)
    Developed by Montana GEAR UP and the Montana Postsecondary Educational Opportunities Council (MPSEOC), this two-page document outlines some possible activities to stimulate discussion on the way to and coming home from your college visit.

    This presentation by staff from Montana GEAR UP, the Student Assistance Foundation, and the MSU-Great Falls College of Technology was first given at the 2007 Montana School Counselor Association Spring Conference. It discusses the various transitions and choices students face when deciding and planning to go college.
